A woman in Tennessee has alleged that thugs dumped a dead cow carcass outside her home as a homophobic threat.

Gaelyn Porter of Johnson City, Tennessee, discovered the crime on Monday after overhearing voices outside her house.

She saw a large vehicle speeding off in the distance, before finding a cow carcass that had been dumped in front of her home. Nails had also been scattered around her property, with one intentionally driven into the tyre of her vehicle.

Speaking to the Johnson City Press, Ms Porter said she believed the incident was triggered by the several rainbow flags she flies from her property.

She said: “I refuse to let something like this make me live in fear.

“I’m not going to take my flags down. In fact, I’m going to put up more, and I hope everyone else does, too.

“I don’t know what motivation they would have for doing something like this. No one here has any enemies. Why would they be so hateful?”

Ms Porter has reported the crime as a hate incident, though it is unclear if it is being treated as one by authorities.

Her local neighbourhood organisation has started selling rainbow flags in solidarity following the incident, benefiting the Human Rights Campaign.
