Leaked Executive Order shows Trump plans to vilify marriage equality and trans people

A leaked draft of an Executive Order will vilify marriage equality, abortion, contraception and trans people, it has been claimed.

The document entitled ‘Establishing a Government-wide Initiative to Respect Religious Freedom’, is rumoured to turn back years of progress for LGBT people under the Obama administration.

The paper obtained by the Investigative Fund shows the order plans to enshrine specific Christian teachings into executive policy.

Claiming to protect religious freedom in every aspect of a citizen’s life, the document states people will be protected when receiving “social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with Federal, State or local governments”.

As well as stating that marriage “is or should be recognised” as being between one man and one woman, it also states that sex before marriage is wrong.

In line with the views held by many in the GOP, the paper states life begins at conception and therefore women should be denied contraception and abortions.

It also says that the terms “male and female” refers to “immutable biological sex”, which is assigned at birth and a further blow to the trans community.

Earlier this week, Sean Spicer, White House Press Secretary, declined to comment on rumours of an anti-LGBT order.

“I’m not getting ahead of the executive orders that we may or may not issue,” he said.

“There is a lot of executive orders, a lot of things that the president has talked about and will continue to fulfill, but we have nothing on that front now.”

Having enacted a ban on people coming from seven Muslim-majority countries, it was claimed his ban could amount to a death sentence for LGBT refugees.
