Cable provider Comcast has agreed to air an advert by an LGBT activist challenging the tax-exempt status of the Mormon Church.

The ad, by Fred Karger, will run on Comcast. It challenges the tax-exempt status of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He said in order to have the ad aired, he has been asked to reword part of the video which alleges that the Church has more than $1 trillion in assets.

But the suggestion of the large assets will still be made in the revised version of the ad along with allegations that the Church spends millions of dollars on political campaigns each year.

On Wednesday, Karger said: “I’m very excited about it”.

The re-shot and newly edited version of the 30 second ad will be edited next week and will hopefully go to Comcast the same week.

A statement was released by the cable channel this week saying it had asked for clarification on claims made in the ad.

But the statement said Karger had provided evidence for four out of five claims, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

“For the one unsubstantiated claim, they agreed to modify the statement/visual,” reads the statement.

“We are waiting for them to send us a revised 30-second ad to review.”

A second company, Provo, had been airing the ad despite the original refusal by Comcast.

Tips in the ad had been received by email and phone, says Karger.
