Make America gay again! Queer Eye for the Straight Guy returns

January 25, 2017

There’s good news for fans of classic noughties reality TV.

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy has announced its to return in a special new series.

Netflix have bought the old Bravo format and commissioned eight new episodes to air this year.

The show sees five gay men – nicknamed the ‘fab five’ – set out to makeover a straight guy who’s lost his cool.

According to Entertainment Weekly the show has pledged to “Make America Fabulous Again”.

The makers of the show said: “In a time when America stands divided and the future seems uncertain, a team of five brave men will try to bring us closer together with laughter, heart, and just the right amount of moisturizer,” reads a statement from the producers.

“The Emmy Award-winning Queer Eye is back and ready to Make America Fabulous Again.

“With a new Fab five and the show’s toughest missions to date, Queer Eye moves from the Big Apple to turn the Red States pink — one makeover at a time.”

The show paved the way for positive portrayals of gay men during its initial airing from 2003 to 2007.

Campaign group GLAAD honored the series with an Outstanding Reality Program award for its 2004 and 2005 series.

Queer Eye also won the Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program in 2004.

The only thing left to know is whether its most famous star Carson is coming back, as he’s yet to confirm.
