President Donald Trump has been forced to admit a lie about his inauguration, just days into power.

The 45th president has been marred with controversy since taking the oath of office 20 January.

He had claimed that the crowds for his inauguration were bigger than any former president – something media outlets and experts widely refuted.

Now he’s been forced to admit a key claim about the day was untrue.

He previously posted a picture of himself at the Winter White House in Mar-a-Lago, writing that he was finishing off his inauguration speech.

But now a White House official has exposed the claim as largely untrue.

It turns out the speech was written by senior advisers Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon.

Among those at his inauguration was Drag Race star Courtney Act, who interviewed attendees for her online series.

As well as fewer attendees than previous inaugurations, eight million more Americans tuned in to watch the inauguration of Barack Obama in 2008 than of President Trump.

Meanwhile the Trump speech – which received a negative reception from many commentators – was said to be the shortest in 40 years.

President Trump is now rumoured to be axing the post of LGBT advisor in his administration.
