A football manager called Mr Pride has been hit with a fine for a homophobia.

Amateur football manager Aaron Pride of Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, was hit with the fine today over the incident.

In an example of inverse nominative determinism, Mansfield Magistrates Court heard that Mr Pride, manager of an amateur Sunday league team, had screamed “a clearly homophobic remark to the referee who is openly gay” during a September 17 match.

According to a report from the Gainsborough Standard, Mr Pride’s attorney said he “didn’t know the referee was gay but accepts that it shouldn’t make a difference”, and was “very remorseful” for his actions.

Mr Pride admitted using threatening and homophobic words.

The football manager was fined £246, and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the victim with £85 costs.
