Woman robbed and abused in ‘homophobic’ Nando’s attack

A woman was attacked and mugged outside a Nando’s chicken restaurant in a homophobic crime, police have said.

The victim, 37, is said to have been subjected to a series of homophobic slurs in the street.

Another woman, stood with a larger group outside the restaurant, is alleged to have hurled the homophobic abuse.

She then grabbed the victim by the neck, forcing her to hand over her belongings.

Police are treating the attack as homophobic.

Scotland Yard said the victim was approached by a group outside the restaurant between 10.15pm and 11.15pm on Friday, December 30.

According to reports the woman fled the scene after the attack.

It took place by the Nando’s restaurant in Denmark Hill, south London.

A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the investigation.

She has been released on bail until late February pending further enquiries.
