Katie Hopkins suggests Jennifer Holliday ‘bullied’ into dropping out of inauguration by LGBT people

Meka Beresford January 15, 2017

Katie Hopkins has attacked the LGBT community in a series of tweets that suggest Jennifer Holliday was “bullied” into not singing at Trump’s inauguration ceremony.

Hopkins took to Twitter to suggest the notion that people within the LGBT community had bullied Holliday out of her decision to perform, and called the community “intolerant.”

“Bullied by the very people who preach tolerance. Who’’s intolerant now? Holliday decides Not to Sing for Trump,” the conservative commentator wrote.

The MailOnline columnist and LBC radio presenter said the community was “in action again” and that they were only prepared to accept “beauty pageant” style answers.

“The ‘tolerant’ LGBT community in action again. Tolerant as long as you have the beauty pageant answer & conform to one opinion…..theirs.,” she wrote in another tweet that she posted alongside a screen shot of Holliday’s letter explaining why she dropped out of the performance.

Holliday backed out of performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony next week following an outcry from her fans.

Initially Holliday, who voted for Hillary Clinton, accepted the performance and defended it by saying it was “non-political”.

The Broadway star said she had a “lapse in judgement” when agreeing to perform at the swearing-in ceremony.

In the letter, which was written exclusively for The Wrap, Holliday writes that she hoped she could keep in tradition as a “bi-partisan songbird”.

Holliday explained that she wanted her voice to unite a divided America, but realised from reading response articles that singing at the inauguration ceremony is not the way, and so she apologises.
