Joe Biden wipes away tears as Obama awards him America’s highest honour

Vice President Joe Biden wiped away tears as President Obama gave him America’s highest award.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is reserved for only the most remarkable Americans.

In a surprise move, President Obama awarded the medal to his “brother” Joe Biden, as onlookers cheered and wiped away tears.

Obama said: “For your faith in your fellow Americans, for your love of country and for your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations, I’d like to ask the military aide to join us on stage,” Obama said in the ceremony.

“For my final time as President, I am pleased to award our nation’s highest civilian honuor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

The medal was awarded with distinction – something just three people have received from the past three presidents.

Obama previously gave the medal to Ellen DeGeneres in 2016 – where she too sobbed as the medal was placed around her neck.
