Fans of the late Carrie Fisher are calling for a Princess Leia funeral.

The star rose to fame in the 1970s playing the iconic character.

She return to the role in the latest Star Wars film which was released in 2015.

The next episode of the series, Episode VIII, is due out in December 2017 and was due to feature Fisher.

Although filming had already begun, fans are calling on producers to fit in a funeral for the character, in honour of the actress.

And others have suggested Carrie Fisher’s real life funeral should be Princess Leia themed.

The Star Wars actress died following a heart attack on a flight from London to the US last Friday.

Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement to PEOPLE on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.

“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
