Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie playing lesbian lawyer in Good Wife spinoff
You know nothing, Diane Lockhart.
Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie is set to play an out character in upcoming legal drama The Good Fight.
The actress, who played Ygritte on the fantasy series, is set to appear in the new CBS show, which is a spin-off from long-running show The Good Wife.
Leslie will join Good Wife alum Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, who are reprising their roles for the new female-focused show.
Her character Maia, the goddaughter of Baranski’s Diane Lockhart, joins her godmother at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms after passing the bar.
This week, execs confirmed Maia’s relationship with another lawyer, Amy, played by Helene Yorke.
A trailer for the show features the pair kissing, while photos revealed by Entertainment Weekly show the characters cuddling together in bed.
Exec Robert King confirmed to EW: “That’s Maia’s longtime girlfriend, who is a lawyer herself. She graduated from law school a while ago. Now it’s Maia’s turn to graduate from law school.”
It’s not the first LGBT lead character in the show’s universe, with The Good Wife’s Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjab) praised as one of the best bisexual characters on TV early on during the show’s run.
However, Panjab quit the show in its sixth season amid rumours of an on-set rift, and a return for The Good Fight is unlikely.
Bi actor Alan Cumming, who also had a key role in The Good Wife, is also not expected to appear in the spin-off.
