Trump may give job to North Carolina’s sacked anti-LGBT Governor

Donald Trump is reportedly planning to find a role in his administration for the outgoing Governor of North Carolina, who was defeated after passing an anti-LGBT law.

North Carolina has lost a string of big investment ventures over Republican Governor Pat McCrory’s decision to sign the contentious HB2 – which voided all local ordinances protecting LGBT rights, banned transgender people from using their preferred bathroom, and permits businesses to discriminate against LGBT people on the grounds of religious belief.

Although GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump comfortably took the state during last month’s elections, an apparent split-ticket vote saw McCrory defeated in his re-election battle by Democratic challenger Roy Cooper – with polling suggesting that HB2 was the decisive issue.

However, there have been reports that McCrory  won’t be consigned to political oblivion, and may be handed a post by the Trump administration.

A source close to the Trump transition team confirmed plans to “look after” McCrory – the only GOP incumbent to lose a re-election battle last month.

Speaking to the Charlotte Observer, the source confirmed: “They’re definitely going to take care of him.”

Trump previously praised the Governor, who campaigned heavily at Trump rallies in the run-up to the election, hailing him as a “loyal Trump supporter from Day One.”

McCrory was spotted attending a meeting in Trump tower on December 7. Many of President-elect Trump’s appointees have been summoned to the New York office for a grilling, suggesting that McCrory is in line for a role.

There are still a number of key roles free in the Trump administration that could be filled by McCrory.
