Trailer for Tom of Finland biopic sheds light on the king of homoerotic art
A full trailer for the biopic Tom of Finland has dropped, exploring the life of the king of homoeroticism.
Influential artist Tom of Finland inspired the look of Freddie Mercury and the Village People with his iconic range of images, smashed through social taboos with portrayal of male eroticism and fetish culture
The artist, real name Touko Laaksonen, died in 1991 but remains an influential figure in the gay art scene, and is one of Finland’s most well-known LGBT figures.
This week the first Finnish-language trailer dropped for the eponymous film based on the artist’s life – including his exploration of the gay fetish scene.
The trailer portrays some of his most famous homoerotic works.
The film is set for release in February 2017.
In 2014 the Finnish postal service launched a line of commemorative stamps featuring risque Tom of Finland works.
The stamps were the best-selling collection in Finnish national history, with orders placed in 178 countries around the world.
However, Finnish supermarket chain Halpa-Halli refused to stock the stamps, claiming they could “offend” customers.
