Police were called to Aberdeen University after reports that protesters, including one who is said to have identified as trans, had thrown glitter over former MP George Galloway.

The politician and former Celebrity Big Brother contestant was giving a talk at the university when the incident happened.

Grainy video footage of the talk shows a shower of colour being thrown of Mr Galloway’s desk, before a series of banners are unravelled.

A member of the audience can be heard shouting “Who did that? Who fucking did that?” immediately after the incident.

Mr Galloway Tweeted: “Someone calling themselves “Trans” and an “anarchist” led a five person attack on me on the platform at Aberdeen University. I continued.”

He claimed to have an “unknown substance in my eyes and lungs” but added later that he was “feeling better… just needed a good shower”.

He said his six month pregnant wife had leapt forward to defend him from the glitter.

Mr Galloway said he believed the attack was part of a no-platform movement that had previously seen a campaign to stop Germaine Greer from speaking on university campuses.

He told TalkRadio: “I am fully behind the trans people, so I’m not really sure why they would take against me.”

Police Scotland said in a statement: “We can confirm that officers attended reports of a disturbance in High Street, Old Aberdeen, at 7.45pm on November 22.

“Inquiries are at an early stage and we have have not spoken to the individual concerned.”
