“Many of us live incredibly lucky, blessed lives and we have a responsibility to help others less fortunate in whichever way we can,” she told The Metro.

“[Defeating the virus] would be a huge contribution to the world for future generations.”

Victoria, who is a goodwill ambassador for the UN’s anti-AIDS programme, and David were at the Global Gift Gala fundraiser on Saturday.

Having met people living with HIV in places like Kenya, the 42-year-old said: “The main thing I learnt is prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV is possible with affordable, readily available medications.”

Last week, Posh Spice revealed a t-shirt designed by her five-year-old daughter, Harper, which is to be sold to raise money for World AIDS day on December 1.

The World Health Organisation believe there are at least 36.9 million people living with HIV around the world.

In 2014, there were an estimated two million new infections, though the new infection rate has dropped around 41% since 2001.

The number of people dying from an AIDS-related cause dropped to 1.2 million in 2014, down from 2.3 million in 2005.
