Doctor Who spin off ‘Class’ actors open up about their relationship onscreen
The actors of Doctor Who spin off Class have opened up to speak about their on-screen gay relationship.
The spin off show, which is set in London, is lead by a gay character Charlie and his boyfriend Matteusz as well as an array of other diverse characters.
The actors who play the couple both identify as straight when away from their acting careers.
Jordan Renzo, who plays Matteusz, told Attitude: “In terms of prep, the focus was more on where he was from, but we worked on our relationship throughout the process to get it as genuine as possible.
“It’s gotten to the point where I have to adjust from addressing Greg as my boyfriend when talking about him.”
Greg Austin, who played the main lead Charlie, said: “For research, I didn’t feel that I needed to do anything to portray loving another man.

Celebrated author Patrick Ness fronts the BBC spin-off series, which has been described as a British take on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Ness revealed before the show begun, that like Buffy, one of the main characters will be gay.
Class isn’t the first Doctor Who spin off to feature LGBT storylines.
Torchwood featured John Barrowman and Gareth Lloyd as fan favourite pairing Captain Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones.
Former CBBC spin-off Sarah Jane Adventures was set to feature a plot arc in which the protagonist’s son Luke opened up about his sexuality.
The original Doctor Who, which was revived in 2005, featured a married interspecies lesbian couple on a recurring basis, and has featured a large number of LGBT characters.
