The Trans List takes an intimate look at its diverse array of transgender subjects, exploring their lives pre and post transition and allowing them to reflect on their identity across the years.

Each direct-to-camera interview was filmed in 60-90 minutes, and was conducted by transgender journalist Janet Mock. The film itself has been edited down to an hour of heartfelt anecdotes and insightful commentary from the interviewees.

Of the 11 subjects, several faces will be familiar. Caitlyn Jenner, stepmother to the infamous Kardashian clan, is a prominent interviewee. In the film she questions the concept of what it is to be female, beyond hair and makeup, and recounts stories from an eventful life.

Orange Is The New Black star and TIME Magazine cover girl Laverne Cox takes The Trans List as an opportunity to reinforce self-worth in the audience, reassuring us, ” We live in a world that tells so many people that they’re not enough. I’m here to tell you that you are.”

Both she and Jenner express their feelings on the responsibilities that come with being trans spokeswomen living in the public eye.

Also within the film, British model and Bond film actress Caroline Cossey tells her story of being outed as transgender by a London tabloid newspaper after appearing in For Your Eyes Only.

The anecdotes told in The Trans List range from memories of raids at New York’s Stonewall Inn to Supreme Court battles over high school toilets.

The interviewees are a collection of activists, creatives, celebrities, porn stars : all individuals who have transitioned, faced their own struggles and are speaking out to inspire others.
