Did Ruth Bader Ginsburg just dissent to the Trump Presidency in the sassiest way possible?
Proving once again that she is a true badass, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg appears to have expressed silent disdain for Donald Trump after he won the Presidential race.
Following news that Trump has won the race to be the 45th US President, Justice Bader Ginsburg appeared on the bench wearing her “dissenting collar” on Wednesday.
The collar, she has previously said, is “fitting for dissent”, and she has been known, according to NBC News, to wear it to silently show her dissent of certain rulings.
But there were no rulings on Wednesday, and it is believed that she wore the collar to signify her opposition a Trump presidency.
She previously clashed with Trump, in July telling the New York Times that she didn’t “want to contemplate” what would happen to the highest court in the US if he won.
“I can’t imagine what this place would be — I can’t imagine what the country would be — with Donald Trump as our president…For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be — I don’t even want to contemplate that,” she said.
Trump tweeted of Bader Ginsburg, who has been a strong ally to the LGBT+ community, responding to her comments suggesting she is not sound of mind.
He wrote: “Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me. Her mind is shot – resign!”
Many have speculated on what a new conservative member of the Supreme Court would mean for America.
But Justice Bader Ginsburg appears to have silently sent a message to Trump using her choice of collar.
Ginsburg has long supported equality, and attracted fury from conservatives for performing same-sex weddings herself ahead of last year’s Supreme Court ruling which legalised same-sex marriage.
