Disney isn’t slowing down with its live-action remakes of classic cartoons, and its latest effort might be the fairest of them all.

The studio has just confirmed that it’s remaking the 1937 animation Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as a live-action musical with a host of brand-new songs.

The new film will be written by Erin Cressida Wilson, who just penned the big-screen version of novel The Girl on the Train.

Meanwhile the film’s new songs will come from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who penned the lyrics for the songs in La La Land, an upcoming musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

It’s only been a few years since Snow White was last on the big screen of course. 2012 saw two separate takes on the fairytale, Kristen Stewart’s Snow White and the Huntsman, and Lily Collins’ Mirror Mirror.

Snow White is also one of the main characters in the fairytale mash-up series Once Upon a Time.

The big difference this time around is that Disney is in charge of this remake, meaning it can use its versions of the dwarfs – not to mention their song, ‘Heigh-Ho’.

Disney has already remade both Cinderella and The Jungle Book in live action in recent years, and has Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, The Lion King and Aladdin all in the works right now.

Snow White was one of the characters re-imagined as part of a gay couple (with Frozen’s Anna) by an artist to celebrate Pride this year.

Meanwhile a fan campaign has called for Frozen 2 to feature a lesbian romance for lead character Elsa, and actress Idina Menzel knows exactly who she should hook up with: Tinkerbell.
