Lady Gaga is such a big fan of Donatella Versace that she even wrote a song about her – and now she might get the chance to play her in American Crime Story.

The third season of the show is set to focus on the 1997 murder of designer Gianni Versace, and creator Ryan Murphy hinted that Gaga might be stepping into Donatella’s no-doubt immaculate shoes.

Murphy was on stage at Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest on Sunday the next two seasons of American Crime Story, which will tackle the Hurricane Katrina aftermath and the Versace murder respectively.

The panel moderator suggested that Murphy favourite Lady Gaga would make “the perfect Donatella.”

“Ya think?” Murphy replied, and grinned.

The showrunner also spoke more about what inspired the choice of theme for the show’s third season.

“I was always very moved and freaked out by the Versace assassination, and I thought it was a really great story to do because it’s a manhunt season,” he said.

“[Serial killer Andrew Cunanan] killed four people and then Versace, and was on the loose. We’re exploring the reasons of how he got away with being undetected.

“The tragedy of the Versace murder was that it should not have happened. He should have been caught by then.

“But he wasn’t caught because he was targeting gay people, and people didn’t care. That’s why Gianni Versace was killed, for the most part.”

Gaga and Donatella are basically BFFs already, and she even inspired a track on her album Artpop, titled ‘Donatella’, appropriately enough.

She’s already worked with Murphy on American Horror Story of course, so we can believe the pair would team up again, especially now that Gaga has released her new album Joanne.

Though if you want more Gaga in your life right now, you can watch her appearance on last week’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’, complete with James Corden donning her infamous meat dress.
