Ellen DeGeneres opened up about her marriage to ‘best friend’ Portia de Rossi

Meka Beresford October 23, 2016

Ellen DeGeneres got personal about her marriage to Portia de Rossi in this week’s issue of people, and it’s beautiful.

The chat show host opened up about her relationship and how they make it work, and their secret is making time for each other.

She told People: “I’m grateful for everything. I’m grateful for my health, and I’m so grateful for the love in my life. Because not everybody finds that. Not everybody finds that best friend.”

The talk show host says the key to happiness is feeling lucky to have your partner in your life.

“Portia and I constantly say to each other, ‘We are so lucky.’ Sometimes it’s lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there.”

“I’ve gotten to a place where I really am just settled. Really. I know that I’m not going anywhere. She’s not going anywhere. I’m not saying the relationship took a while; I’m saying in my life, it took a while to find this,” she added.

The couple have been together since 2004, and she says they are still deeply in love after over a decade together as a pair.

As for their daily routine, it certainly beats the 9-5 many of us are victims of.

“Portia and I usually wake up around 6:30 or 7 a.m., drink coffee in bed and watch one of the morning shows.”

“Then just reading, or she likes to do jigsaw puzzles. And we like walking about our property and hanging out with our dogs and just looking at the ocean. You know, relaxing.”

For DeGeneres, there is no “best part” about marriage because “everything” is the best part.

“I think the word ‘love’ is thrown around, like, ‘I love you’ is great to hear, but you want to feel it,” she says.

“You want to feel that you’re understood, and they know exactly who you are, and they know how to take care of you.”

“I can’t imagine not being married. I have my best friend, the person I want to spend time with more than anybody else in the world.”
