This video teaches kids some really important lessons about homophobia
Tackling homophobia is important, especially for parents trying to raise the next generation of children, and this video approaches the subject in the best possible way.
Lindsay Amer of Queer Kid Stuff tackles the homophobia in this episode, and it gives lessons some adults could learn from.
Lindsey and ‘Teddy’ set up the safe space and talk about how homophobia is not a good thing, and grows when people are scared of ‘different’.
“We’ve talked about how people who are gay or queer are a little bit different from others but there are people out there who are scared of different,” says Lindsey.
“It is unfair and can be very unhelpful. If you see someone being mean to someone else you should go and tell a grown up.”
“My community is so important to me especially while making these videos and about all of these awesome things. I’ve found a whole lot of love in this community and we can always change homophobia. It is not permanent and we should always remember that.”
The topic is painful for Amer, as she filmed the video not long after the Orlando attacks.

“There’s a bit of a tonal shift in the episode,” she told The Huffington Post.
“I wrote this right after the attack on Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. As much as I would love to stay in the happy queer utopia of love and acceptance, that is not the reality of our world.”
“I hope this video will help those who do not have the words to talk to the little ones around them about what happened in Orlando, and what might be happening to them in their schools.”
“My hope is that by creating these videos and continuing to educate young people on LGBTQ+ issues, there will come a time when this video is a relic that is no longer necessary.”
