Magic Johnson’s wife Cookie says she ‘turned to God’ to accept gay son EJ

Magic Johnsons wife Cookie Johnson has spoken out about turning to God in order to find acceptance for her son EJ who came out as gay in 2013.

Basketball legend Magic Johnson spoke out in support of his son EJ who publicly came out by hitting the Sunset Strip in Hollywood hand-in-hand with his boyfriend.

Earvin Johnson III, known as EJ, took to the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, hand in hand with his boyfriend.

Magic said that he had known for a while that EJ was gay, and that he had always supported him.

Now Cookie Johnson has spoken out to say she turned to God in order to overcome her struggle to accept EJ.

Speaking to Oprah, she said: “That was a very hard thing for me. That was a very, very hard thing for me.

“I tried everything, but finally I just said to myself, ”This child is innocent. He was like this when he was a baby, it can’t be wrong. It can’t be wrong.”

She adds: “So I had to pray about it and this was one of those moments where I had to go directly to God and I prayed and the answer I got back was love.

“And he said, you know, ”I give you all great gifts and the greatest of that gift is love.” And so, that’s when I knew I could love my son and support him on who he was and I was okay with it. I made peace with God with it. So I’m good.”

Magic Johnson quit professional basketball in 1991, after he announced he was HIV positive. He has since taken over as part owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Magic has also been an advocate for HIV and AIDS prevention charities, and an advocate of safe sex.

Earlier this week a supporter of Donald Trump suggested that Hillary Clinton “has AIDS” because her husband “messed with Magic Johnson”.
