Watch the moment this acid attack survivor walked the runway at New York Fashion Week

The 19-year-old survivor of an acid attack has taken to the runway at New York Fashion Week in an inspirational moment.

Reshman Banoo Qureshi campaigns for the ban on the sale of concentrated acid, after she lost an eye and endured physical disfiguration after her brother-in-law attacked her with acid.

She works with Make Love Not Scars which campaigns to help those who are victims of acid attacks, and aim to curb the sale of concentrated acid in India.

Qureshi made her debut at the FTL Moda show wearing a gown by Indian designer Archana Kochhar.

The fashion house works with Global Disability Inclusion which sources models for designers.

The organisation has helped designers find models such as Madeline Stuart, who happens to have Down syndrome, and congenital amputees Gianna Schiavone and Rebekah Marine.

FTL Moda makes it a priority that it highlights diversity in its models, and this year featured Shaholly Ayers, who was born without her right arm below the elbow.

Qureshi previously went viral when a makeup tutorial she made about red lips touched a nerve with many.

It showed her saying: “Finally, the most important tip. You’ll find a red lipstick easily in the market just like concentrated acid. This is the reason why, every day, a girl becomes a victim of an acid attack.”

A video of the model being told she would fly to New York Fashion Week, despite having never left India, also went viral after it was published by Make Love Not Scars.
