A school resource officer who was caught on camera violently throwing a student across a classroom won’t face criminal charges.

According to BuzzFeed, South Carolina prosecutors announced on Friday that the officer would not face charges.

Richland

Officer Ben Fields as sacked in October after footage filmed on a mobile phone showed him lifting up a student and throwing them across a classroom.

The former Richland County police officer wrestled the female student of Spring Valley high school.

But 5th Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson wrote in a court summary published by BuzzFeed that he didn’t think the officer’s actions warrant criminal charges.

Fields issued a statement to the court saying he had done nothing wrong, claiming the student had resisted and attempted to punch him in the face.

“As I continued to use the muscling technique the student’s leg broke free from the lock the student had on the desk and the student slid across the floor,” his statement reads.

After the incident in October, many called for Fields to face criminal charges.

The student was left with bruises and a fracture to her wrist.
