Sometimes people feel they have to shout from the rooftops about their love, and this Royal Navy officer did just that.

Ann Jones, 47, took to the stage at Liverpool Pride to pop the question to her girlfriend 32-year-old Emma Baldry.

Engagement

Starting by talking about her commitment to the ‘Come out of the Shadows’ project, which aims to make Liverpool more outwardly LGBT+ friendly, Jones says she has an important question for Baldry.

The Chief Petty Officer, who served 24-years in the navy and is now in the reserves at HMS Eaglet, then gets down on one knee to ask Baldry the big question.

The pair had been together for two years before the proposal.

Luckily Baldry, who appears overwhelmed by the question, says yes and the pair kiss.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Jones says: “I wanted my home city to know how much Emma means to me so thought I’d take the opportunity whilst she was on stage in front of many of our friends.

“Come Out of the Shadows is a campaign that resonates with me on a personal level, so Liverpool Pride was the perfect venue.”

Her new fiancee Baldry adds: “I am overwhelmed, it’s still sinking in I think. I was totally shocked to see Ann appear on the stage behind me. She has definitely made me the happiest girl at Pride today.

“I’ve had a rough ride losing my job recently, I was the training coordinator for LGBT charity Broken Rainbow before it went into liquidation and Ann has been my rock and my anchor throughout.”

Liverpool Pride festivities continue on Sunday.

Of course Jones is not the first person in uniform to pop the question in public.

Back in 2012, this US Marine Corps captain proposed to his boyfriend in the White House.

And in a different type of uniform, Drag Race star Latrice Royale got down on one knee to get engaged and of course it was on video.
