Police seek man over ‘vile’ homophobic train attack
British Transport Police have released a CCTV picture of a man they are seeking in relation to a shocking homophobic incident on a train.
The incident took place at around 2:45 PM on June 14, on a Merseyrail train from Ormskirk to Liverpool.
The attacker boarded the train at Kirkdale, before threatening a man, demanding money, and spouting a torrent of homophobic abuse.
He left the train at Moorfields station.
Police released an image of a man they are seeking in relation to the attack.
In a statement, PC Philip Shaw said: “The victim was travelling with his mother, when another man boarded the train at Kirkdale Station and sat adjacent to them.
“He asked the victim for money before subjecting him to a torrent of homophobic abuse and threatened to hit him with a can of lager he was carrying.
“The abuse continued until he eventually left the train at Moorfields station.
“This was a vile attack on someone who was just minding their own business. Behaviour like this will not be tolerated and we will do everything in our power to find those who seek to intimidate and abuse fellow passengers and bring them to justice.”
After reviewing CCTV, officers are today issuing images of a man they want to speak to about the incident.
“The man in the image is someone who I think has information about this incident. Who is he?”
