Dolly Parton has endorsed Dolly Parton to be President of the United States.

The gay icon spoke out after comments she made in an interview praising Hillary Clinton were taken to be an endorsement of the former Secretary of State.

The 9 to 5 singer had told the New York Times that a female nominee “would be wonderful”, and added: “Hillary might make as good a president as anybody ever has.”

Taking to her official Facebook page, Parton clarified that she was not actually backing Clinton.

She wrote: “This morning while I was watching the news I saw many reports that I had endorsed Hillary Clinton.

“My comment about supporting a woman in the White House was taken out of context. I have not endorsed Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump.

“I try not to get political but if I am, I might as well just run myself ’cause I’ve got the hair for it, it’s huge, and they could always use more boobs in the race.

“But seriously, I have not decided who I’m voting for, but no matter what we’re gonna be suffering from PMS, Presidential Mood Swings.”

Elsewhere in the NYT interview, Dolly Parton ‘fessed up to changing the lyrics of some of her biggest hits for her gay fans.

She said: “You know, we usually have boys all dressed like me, and so when I do ‘Jolene’ and I see a bunch of drag queens out there, I start singing [to the tune of the ‘Jolene’ chorus] “drag queen, drag queen, drag queen! Please don’t take my man!”

“I have a huge gay following, and I’m proud of them. Sometimes some of them look more like me than I do.”
