Jeremy Corbyn heckled by Labour LGBT activist at Pride in London
A Labour LGBT activist has heckled the party’s leader Jeremy Corbyn as he arrived at Pride in London.
In two videos, uploaded to Twitter by Tom Mauchline, the Labour leader is told “It’s your fault”, referring to the EU referendum vote, which Mr Corbyn has been criticised for what some say was a lacklustre campaign to remain in the EU.
Mauchline wrote on Twitter: “I get so angry when politicians use the lgbtq+ community to protect their weak leadership”
Mr Corbyn arrived at Pride in London this morning after giving a speech this morning in Central London, in which he partly blamed the vote to leave the EU on austerity.
He defied critics who urged him to step down, saying he has no intention of doing so.
Speaking to BuzzFeed News, another Labour activist Tom Rutland said: “Corbyn got heckled when he turned at LGBT Labour’s pride contingent for not campaigning enough in the referendum… Labour members were surprised when he walked off and several shouted ‘coward’ at him. I’ve spoken to a lot of young friends who voted for Corbyn and feel betrayed.”
This morning, Mr Corbyn wished everyone attending Pride events the best, and said he was proud to live in the UK which fights for equal rights. .
But the Labour leader faces a fight for his place, after plans of a vote of no confidence by senior members of his party were revealed.
