Many have taken to social media, to show off their colourful new additions – with many of the designs showing a splash of rainbow colours and a heartbeat reading.

Lance White – an artist at Cast Iron Tattoos which is located just three blocks south of Pulse – told Orlando Sentinel that the parlour has witnessed a vast increase in customers following the atrocity.

“What better way to do it right when it happens,” he said. “It’s fresh in everyone’s mind and they want to remember it.”

White said many of their customers either frequent Pulse or are employees there, which is why he found the tattoo work he’s done since the shooting “more meaningful” than usual.

“We are close with this community. It just hits really close to home,” he added.

White said that tattooing is an experience which often helps some people come to terms with issues facing them.

“It’s therapy for some people,” he explained.

“It helps them cope with it.”
