Liam Gallagher apologises for homophobic tweet following Orlando attack

Liam Gallagher has apologised after sending a tweet about “batty boys” in the wake of a mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando which left 49 dead.

After reports of even more trouble at Euro 2016 involving Russian hooligans, former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher took to twitter to weigh in on the violence.

But the Wonderwall hitmaker caused outrage with his comments, which showed little tact in the wake of recent events.

“Russian hooligans skintight shorts bumbags batty boy muscles ha ha I’d be more worried bout getting me arse pinched LG,” he wrote.

Fellow Twitter users were quick lash out at the singer, branding him a “homophobe” and “fool”.

“Hi Liam, 49 people were killed in a gay club last weekend, so if you *have* to use outdated slurs can u wait a bit?” wrote one user.

“Using the term batty boy is tactful considering #Orlando but I guess being famous gives you a free pass,” posted another.

“Because homophobia is super amusing, right?” asked a third.

The singer made the comments following further violence during the football event, which has seen various injuries and arrests of players from various countries, including the UK.

But he later took to Twitter on Thursday to apologise for the comments.

He writes: “If I’ve upset anybody with my tweets I apologise that includes you RKID as you were LG x (sic),”

“RKID” refers to his brother Noel Gallagher, with who he has feuded for years.

Sadly, Gallagher is not the only person to make thoughtless jibes in the wake of the horrendous crime.

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump claimed in a speech after the massacre that he is a “real friend” of LGBT people, insisting a victory for Hillary Clinton would lead to the deaths of more gays.

However, his comments were ridiculed by many, including Scotland’s leader Nicola Sturgeon.

50 people were killed and 53 injured in the shocking terrorist hate crime attack over the weekend, which saw a gunman open fire inside The Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida.
