Hillary Clinton urges for ‘intelligence surge’ in wake of Orlando gay club mass shooting

Joseph McCormick June 13, 2016

Democratic Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has urged for there to be an “intelligence surge” in thr wake of the Orlando mass shooting at a gay club which left 50 dead.

Clinton warned that the “terrorist may be dead”, but that “the virus that poisoned his mind… remains alive.”

Speaking in Cleveland, she said: “We have to be just as adaptable and versatile as our enemies… As president, I will make identifying and stopping lone wolves a top priority.”

“This is a moment when all Americans need to stand together. No matter how many times we endure attacks like this, the horror never fades,” she told Politico.

“The murder of innocent people breaks our hearts, tears at our sense of security and makes us furious. Now we have to steel our resolve to respond, and that’s what I want to talk to you about: how we respond,” she continued.

“The Orlando terrorist may be dead, but the virus that poisoned his mind remains very much alive,” she said. “And we must attack it with clear eyes, steady hands, unwavering determination and pride in our country and our values.”

50 people were killed and 53 injured yesterday in the shocking terrorist hate crime attack, which saw a gunman open fire inside The Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida.

ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the attack, which was perpetrated by US citizen Omar Mateen. The majority of the victims were Latino.

In a statement, President Obama mourned the victims of the homophobic hate crime attack and called for greater restrictions on arms sales.

In response, Republican nominee Donald Trump said Obama should resign for failing to rally against Islam in his comments.
