A new documentary follows the journey of different generational trans people coming together to create performances and it’s heartwarming.

New York campaign group SAGE used the Transgenerational Theatre Project to bring together trans people of all ages in an artistic bid to connect younger and older generations. The workshop, which was free, explored theatre and the arts.

Christian Hansenappel, a member of the team who worked with SAGE, said: “It’s very empowering to have your ideas transformed into a small piece of theatre. It’s all coming from them.

“Trans people experience such intense isolation and for people to be able to come together in a community, not only with other trans folk but with trans people who may be of a different generation from them altogether, it’s just beautiful.”

The group caters to the needs of LGBT elders in the community and addresses issues they face including employment and healthcare.

Genevieve Tatum said: “I’m not sure if the younger trans people know what the older trans people went through. They have different issues now and deal with different things now and we learn much from each other.”

The project worked together for around two months creating a range of different projects.
