Celine Dion has revealed that her husband René Angélil died after falling from his bed.

The 73-year-old music producer died in January, after a long battle with throat cancer.

His wife has now revealed that he was found on the floor by his “distraught” nurse after trying to get up from bed.

“René wanted to die in my arms but, alas, I was singing that night,” Dion revealed.

“He died on the night of 13-14 January. He must have wanted to get up and he fell on the floor.”

The iconic singer also shared her regret at not checking on her husband after returning from her show.

“Normally, after my show when he had taken his last medications, I gave him a kiss, tucked him in and sent him off to sleep,” she explained.

“That evening I didn’t want to wake him. It was the nurse who found him the next day.

“Distraught, she came to find me. I went into the room.”

The singer broke down in tears after her son made a surprise appearance on stage to present her with the Icon award at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards.

The 48-year-old made her first televised singing performance since the death of her husband and brother in January.

In a poignant move, she performed a cover of his favourite song, Queen’s The Show Must Go On.

And moments later her eldest son René-Charles emerged on stage with her award.

“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry for crying. I want to be so strong for my family and kids,” she told the crowd.

“I don’t want to cry in front of you,” she then said to her son.

“Thank you very much. This is such a tremendous honour. Music has been my passion since before I can almost remember.”
