A new release from Neon Trees sees lead singer Tyler Glenn taking a shot at the Mormon Church due to its stance on homosexuality.

Tyler Glenn, the band’s lead singer, came out as gay two years ago in an interview with Rolling Stone.

The band, led by the Mormon singer, have released their new track ‘Trash’, which takes aim at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In the video, Glenn drinks alcohol from a bottle, declaring: “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Walking the halls of a building including portraits of the church’s founder Joseph Smith, Glenn clearly has an axe to grind with the church.

He tells Rolling Stone that the video reflects his “violent relationship” with the church.

“My entire life and perspective on God, the afterlife, morals and values, my self-worth and my born sexual orientation has been wired within the framework of this religion that doesn’t have a place for me,” he says.

“I served [this church]. I was the square peg trying to fit into the round hole. I believed it till six months ago.”

“I always tried to make being gay and being Mormon work,” he goes on.

Of the Church’s insistence that man-woman marriages are the only option, Glenn lashes out.

“There have been over 40 suicides within the church as a result of this policy. These aren’t just grown men and women. Many are children. It’s backwards. It’s not of God. I needed to make this statement to artfully show the pain of a faith crisis and the darkness of doubt, but also that there’s ways to reclaim what is yours.”

Glenn has been vocal about reconciling his faith and homosexuality, even making out with Dustin Lance Black in a music video while maintaining his Mormon beliefs.

In 2014, two Mormons released a photo book showing them having fully-clothed simulated sex, to mock the institution that they were brought up in.

The book, which Bednar must have not read, features Missionaries Elder Kimball and Elder Searcy posing in different sexual positions.

The Mormon Church is not the first to make the ludicrous claim that it has no gay members – the Iranian President claims there are no homosexuals in his country.
