Elton John, Madonna and Boy George lead tributes to Prince
The pop icon was found dead in his home yesterday.
Tributes have poured in for the pop legend Prince following his shock death yesterday.
Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, was found dead in his Minnesota aged 57.
Elton John lead tributes to the star, posting a portrait of Prince on Instagram with heartfelt caption.
“This is truly devastating news. The greatest performer I have ever seen,” he wrote.
“A true genius. Musically way ahead of any of us. Sang with him twice on stage. What an honour.”
Boy George claimed it “the worst day ever” on Twitter, Ellen DeGeneres saying: “Prince was brilliant and larger than life. What a sad day.”
Other tributes poured in from celebrities including Madonna who said she was “devastated” by his death.
“He Changed The World!! A True Visionary. What a loss,” she wrote.
Frank Ocean – who caused waves in the music industry by discussing his past relationship with a man back in 2012 – also took to Tumblr to write an impassioned tribute to the icon.
“Ah. So this is what it sounds like when doves cry. Prince, you shall be missed by all of us. Thanks for the music and the joy,” wrote George Takei.

Prince was earlier this month forced to have his private jet land early in Illinois, the site reports, due to a medical emergency.
He previously cancelled two shows over health issues.
The Purple Rain singer rose to fame in 1982 with his debut album 1999.
The star performed at the 2007 Superbowl, and won seven Grammys, selling more than 100 million records.
