A gay pastor has launched a lawsuit against a supermarket chain, after they allegedly sold him a cake with the word ‘fag’ on it.

Pastor Jordan Brown has filed a lawsuit for “intentional infliction of emotional distress” against Whole Foods, after a cake he ordered allegedly arrived with the phrase “Love Wins Fag” written on it.

He says he grew suspicious after the girl who served him laughed when he made his order, but did not see what was written on the cake until he arrived home.

“It was just so humiliating and offensive. When I called the manager I was literally crying,” Brown told the Daily Dot.

Earlier this week, Brown took to Twitter to announced a press conference, while posting a picture of the offending cake.

Brown is the pastor of the LGBT-friendly Church of Open Doors in Austin. He said the cake was ordered for a member of his church.

Whole Foods has since issued a statement denying the pastor’s claims, before defending the team member who made the cake.

“The team member wrote ‘Love Wins’ at the top of the cake as requested by the guest and that’s exactly how the cake was packaged and sold at the store,” the statement read.

“Our team members do not accept or design bakery orders that include language or images that are offensive.

“Whole Foods Market has a zero tolerance policy for discrimination.”

The company has also spoken to BuzzFeed News, asserting that the allegations are not true.

The company says it will support its employees who are embroiled in this incident, and has further revealed that the staff who was in charge of Brown’s cake decorations is part of the LGBT community:

“We stand behind our bakery team member, who is part of the LGBT community, and the additional team members from the store, who confirmed the cake was decorated with only the message ‘Love Wins’.”

In response to claims that Brown himself doctored the cake, his lawyer claimed that his client is “not a cake baker, he’s not much of a cook and he doesn’t have blue icing in his house”.
