Award winning actress Viola Davis has promised to fight for LGBT families everywhere, as she expressed her outrage at the lack of LGBT rights across the world.

“I’m fighting for you,” she said at the Tribeca Film Festival – during the premiere of her most recent film, Custody.

“I believe in you,” she told The Advocate. “I think that I’m just as outraged as you are.”

“I think you’re worthy of every right that ever human being in this country, in this world, has been afforded.”

The actress went on to criticise film makers who use minorities as ‘plot device’, rather than as well-rounded human beings.

“I’m a woman of colour. I’m a woman,” she said.

“There’s so many people who are disenfranchised, who are put in a classical narrative and then just as a device, a stereotype, and it becomes a reflection of our mindset of how we don’t want to explore them as human beings.”

Custody, a movie about a mother’s struggle to keep legal guardianship of her child, sees Davis play a judge weighing the custody decision.

Meanwhile, James Franco’s gay porn drama has won critical acclaim since its release on Saturday.

The new film based on the real life murder of gay porn baron Bryan Kocis also stars Garrett Clayton, Christian Slater and Molly Ringwald.

It was revealed in October that Franco was starring in the film – which will be based on the brutal murder of the Cobra Videos filmmaker in 2007.

Disney star Clayton will play Brent Corrigan – real name Sean Paul Lockhart – a famed porn star for the company who starred in a number of high-profile adult films.
