The pair posted an apology video after smuggling their two dogs into Australia.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have released a video apologising for smuggling their Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo into Australia.

The clip comes after Heard pleaded guilty to providing false documentation to immigrant officials.

Prosecutors dropped two more serious charges of illegal importation that would have carried a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.

However, Heard could still face up to a year in prison and a hefty fine after pleading guilty to providing a false document.

Depp accompanied his wife to the hearing in Queensland today, where Heard’s lawyers told the court their client had also prepared a video expressing her remorse.

“Australia is a wonderful island with a treasure trove of unique plants, animals and people,” Heard says in the video.

“Australia is free of many pests that are commonplace in other places around the world. That is why Australia has to have such strong biosecurity laws.”

Depp adds: “Australians are just as unique – both warm and direct. When you disrespect Australian law they will tell you firmly.”

Heard added: “I am truly sorry Pistol and Boo were not declared. Protecting Australia is important.”

Depp was in Queensland filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales last year when Heard is thought to have “smuggled” their beloved pets into the country.

Earlier this year, Heard – who is bisexual – spoke out about her sexual orientation, saying it is not defined by her marriage to Depp.

The actress, who stars in the Danish Girl, came out in 2010 as she dated photographer Tasya van Ree.

She later married Johnny Depp, and adopted his two children, but says marrying a man does not define her sexual orientation.

Last year, Depp expressed his pride after his daughter – model and actress Lily-Rose – made a subtle statement about her sexuality.
