Republican candidate insists his gay Hitler fancy dress costume is not offensive
A Republican candidate in Texas has defended wearing a ‘gay Hitler’ fancy dress costume… and insists he’s not gay.
The San Antonio Express-News unearthed the Facebook picture of Kyle Biedermann, a “rock solid conservative” father of 7 who is running for a seat in the State Congress.
The picture – taken at a charity fundraiser in 2008 – shows Mr Biedermann donning a pink Nazi outfit and false Hitler moustache, posing by doing a Hitler salute.
However, the candidate insists there is a “simple” explanation for the costume.
He said: “The explanation is simple. This was a fundraiser for the Food Pantry and the Needs Counsel with about 400 people with a SNL theme.
“The costumes are supposed to be outrageous and mine certainly was. Gay Hitler was a SNL character from the show which of coarse [sic] is a spoof.”
He felt the need to clarify: “I am not gay and never have been. Don’t know anything about Swingers Clubs and no desire to find out. I have an amazing wife.”
Mr Biedermann has since attempted to delete the picture despite insisting it isn’t offensive.
A spokesperson for the Jewish Anti-Defamation League said: “We have consistently criticized any use of Nazi imagery like this because we believe it trivializes the Holocaust and is offensive to those who have suffered and perished at the hands of the Nazis.”
Sadly, gay Hitler tributes are relatively moderate compared to the conduct of some other Texas Republicans.
One candidate has refused to apologise for her claim that Barack Obama secretly worked as a male prostitute in order to score drugs.
Republican candidate Mary Lou Bruner insists:: “Obama has a soft spot for homosexuals because of the years he spent as a male prostitute in his twenties.
“That is how he paid for his drugs. He has admitted he was addicted to drugs when he was young, and he is sympathetic with homosexuals; but he hasn’t come out of the closet about his own homosexual/bisexual background.”
