Watch what happened when a skinny straight guy went to Bear Week

The latest edition of a travel show sees a skinny straight male reporter go undercover (kind of) at Bear Week.

Thomas Morton took to the festivities in Cape Cod, learning about gay slang words and subcultures along the way.

He talks about Bears, Pocket Bears, Cubs, Otters, and more.

“Before they had their own flag’s worth of subtypes, bears were a fringe stripe of the gay subcultural rainbow — to0 hairy for the Chelsea boy queen scene, too hefty for the Tom of Finland-esque Castro clones, bears quietly consorted with one another through early internet usenet groups, and mailing lists, and the back pages of Bear Magazine, before finally bursting into the gay overground with the first International Bear Rendezvous in 1995,” says Morton.

The documentary for Viceland is the latest in a number of series from the brand looking at LGBT issues.

Freeheld star Ellen Page, who came out as a lesbian in 2014, fronts VICE’s new documentary series Gaycation – and travelled to some of the most homophobic places on earth alongside gay best friend Ian Daniel.

After travelling to Brazil and confronting a policeman who brags about shooting gay people, Ellen and her best friend Ian Daniel have gone to Japan.
