A man has been arrested in after failing to return a VHS rented in 2001.

The man, James Meyers, 37, posted a video on his YouTube channel talking about the arrest, which took place after he was pulled over during a traffic stop in Concord, North Carolina.

After being pulled over for a broken taillight, Meyers said officers ran his driving licence, and asked him to stop out of the car.

They then informed him that a warrant had been issued in 2002, after he didn’t return the VHS, of ‘Freddy Got Fingered’ to a now closed down rental store in Kannapolis.

He was allowed to drop his daughter off at school, and go to work, before later turning himself in to police later that day.

In the video, he said: “The officer said ‘I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented the movie Freddy Got Fingered and never returned it’.”

Meyers was arrested and given a court date of 27 April.

He now faces a fine of up to $200 for not returning the film, which has a 1 star rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film’s writer, and one of its stars, Tom Green, tweeted to say he would help Meyers out financially.

The 44-year-old shared the story on his Twitter.

Green told New York Daily News: “If it’s 200 bucks of course I’ll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing.”
