After years of speculation, Fey has finally confirmed that the stage adaptation is happening.

Fey, who also starred in the film, confirmed the news on Tuesday’s Watch What Happens Live.

She is working on the musical, which she says will have more of a classic Broadway style than a modern pop songs.

Fey said: “We haven’t finished it yet, but it’s close — yes, pretty close”.

Along with her husband/composer Jeff Richmond, the musical will feature a song about Cady Heron’s passion for Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Fey admitted getting the musical right is “tricky”, saying “Book of Mormon really nailed that genre!”
