One of London Mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan’s aides has been suspended over tweets in which he referred to “faggots” and “hoes”.

Shueb Salar, who acts as a Parliamentary Assistant to Khan, was suspended once the Mayoral hopeful’s office caught wind of the tweets.

A spokesperson for Khan said the tweets, which used abusive language to describe women and gay people, were “serious issues”.

Pending an investigation, Salar has been suspended from Khan’s Parliamentary office.

One tweet from May 2012 read: “Currently hating on all you faggots who have finished uni.”

It ended: “Lucky c**ts”.

A second, from June 2012, said: “F*ck all you hoes”, and another from April 2012 gave advice on how to “treat a lady”, saying to “buy her a nice iron and extend the kitchen for her”.

Salar began working for Khan in November 2014, according to an Associated Press report.

A spokeswoman for Mr Khan said: “Clearly these are serious issues. Shueb Salar has been suspended from Sadiq Khan’s parliamentary office pending an investigation.”

His appointment has been attacked by House of Commons Leader Chris Grayling, who said:”These comments have absolutely no place in modern society.

“They raise serious questions about the judgement of Sadiq Khan who chose to employ this man despite his views being public, on a Twitter account followed by Khan himself.

“The mayor of London makes a large number of decisions about who to hire and how to spend public funds: his record shows Sadiq Khan can’t make those decisions in a way that stands up for Londoners.”

Khan is currently the Labour MP for Tooting, and has unwaveringly voted for LGBT equality in Parliament since he was first elected in 2005 – making him one of the first Muslim lawmakers to do so.

Last week in a radio interview, he responded to a string of attacks attempting to link him to Muslim extremists – by citing his record on LGBT equality.

PinkNews has contacted Khan’s campaign for comment.
