Edina and Patsy’s big screen outing has finally been given a release date.

Prepare for glitz, glamour and plenty of celebrity cameos this summer – Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is coming to the big screen on July 1 in the UK and July 22 in the US.

The news comes nearly a week after the legendary fashionistas were seen cruising on a speedboat, sipping cocktails, and taking a slow-motion walk along the beach during the first official trailer for the flick.

This is the first footage of the movie – which has been garnering a lot of attention since its announcement earlier in the year.

Celebrities said to be taking part include One Direction’s Harry Styles – who will be playing the love interest of Lumley’s hard partying character.

Also set to star are Glee’s Chris Colfer, acting legend Joan Collins, Emma Bunton and Kim Kardashian West.

A blurb for the film reads: “Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots.

“But when they are blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi.

“Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forevermore!”

However, the production has not been without controversy – after the film was accused of using “yellowface” for casting a white actor to play a Japanese character.

The character Huki Muki, a Japanese fashion designer, will be played by Janette Tough, and was spotted filming with Lumley and Saunders in December.

Margaret Cho, Korean-American comedian, tweeted her disgust at the film’s casting choice.

She wrote: “Have some respect. Hire Asian actors 4 Asian roles. I’m not going to name the production but I’m DISGUSTED!”
