Anti-gay Ted Cruz accidentally features lesbian adult star in campaign ad

The presidential candidate pulled the ad after realising its star had featured in a string of soft-core adult films.

Homophobic presidential candidate Ted Cruz was left embarrassed yesterday, after discovering the star of his new campaign ad had a rather interesting acting history.

Cruz – lover of show tunes, hater of marriage equality – unveiled a new ad titled ‘Conservatives Anonymous’ on Thursday.

The advert features a woman urging Americans to “vote for more than just a pretty face next time”, a dig aimed at rival Marco Rubio.

Ironically, it was Cruz who was left red-faced, after it was revealed that the actress in question was Amy Lindsay – whose colourful portfolio features roles in classic hits such as ‘Secrets of a Chambermaid’, ‘Milf’, ‘Sex Sent Me To The ER’ and ‘Carnal Wishes’.

The ad was swiftly pulled, with the senator’s campaign team quick to claim they had no idea about Ms Lindsay’s previous work (they’ve obviously never heard of IMDb).

Cruz’s press secretary Catherine Frazier insisted the campaign would never knowingly employ an adult film actress.

“Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the casting company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad,” she said.

“The campaign is taking the ad down and will replace it with a different commercial.”

Despite the scandal her appearance has caused, Ms Lindsay said she is a Republican and a Christian conservative – and thought it was ‘cool’ that a adult star could appear in a Cruz ad.

“In a cool way, then hey, then it’s not just some old, white Christian bigot that people want to say, ‘It could be, maybe, a cool kind of open-minded woman like me,”‘ she told BuzzFeed News.

A militant opponent of gay rights, Cruz is one of six Republican candidates to have backed a new ‘religious freedom’ law which would allow religious people to discriminate against married gay couples – while he also plans to void same-sex marriage entirely.

Cruz branded actress Ellen Page a “liberal fascist” when she confronted him about his stance – and says he is proud of his links with ‘death to gays’ pastor Kevin Swanson.
