A report suggests that a porn actor is thought to have transmitted HIV to another performer during a condom-less scene.

The report from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), suggests that testing alone cannot keep porn actors safe from HIV infection.

Condoms were recommended by the CDC, alongside PrEP as a preventative measure to stop the spread of HIV in the entertainment industry.

A 25-year-old man who had tested negative for HIV in 2014, referred to in the CDC report as ‘Patient A’, had bareback sex with 17 other men, which included 12 other porn actors, in subsequent weeks.

The man had, according to the report, become infect with HIV through sex with a non-work partner.

“The performer, having tested negative by nucleic acid amplification test within the preceding 14 days, and unaware of his very recent HIV infection, infected another performer and a non–work-related partner,” the report ‘s summary explained.

The four men were found by the CDC to have become positive with a genetically related strain of HIV.

“This is the first well-documented work-related HIV transmission among male adult film performers,” the CDC report said.

The report went on to recommend condoms and PrEP as preventative measures against HIV.

“Adult film performers and production companies, medical providers, and all persons at risk for HIV should be aware that testing alone is not sufficient to prevent HIV transmission,” doctors for the CDC wrote.

“Condom use provides additional protection from HIV and sexually transmitted infections,” they added. “Performers and all persons at risk for HIV infection in their professional and personal lives should discuss the use of PrEP with their medical providers.”
