JK Rowling entrusted Alan Rickman with a HUGE Harry Potter secret

Joseph McCormick January 19, 2016

JK Rowling has revealed that she entrusted late actor Alan Rickman with a HUGE secret during filming for the Harry Potter films.

The author has revealed that she told Rickman, who famously portrayed Professor Snape in the films, that his character was in love with Harry Potter’s mother Lily.

Rickman had kept the secret a secret, however, never even revealing that Rowling had told him.

In 2011, he said he had been given a “tiny, little, left of field”, information about Snape by the author.

“She [Rowling] gave me one tiny, little, left of field piece of information that helped me think that he was more complicated and that the story was not going to be as straight down the line as everybody thought,” Rickman said in 2011.

“If you remember when I did the first film she’d only written three or four books, so nobody knew where it was really going except her.”

He said this helped him develop a better depth of character.

“And its was important for her that I know something, but she only gave me a tiny piece of information which helped me think it was a more ambiguous route.”

Tweeting on Monday, Rowling was asked by a fan whether she would ever reveal what she had told Rickman.

She responded: “I told Alan what lies behind the word ‘always’.”

The famed author was referencing a plot twist from Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final instalment of the books.

When asked by Professor Dumbledore whether he had loved Lily Potter the whole time, he replies just with the word: “Always”.

Despite appearing to be an enemy of Harry Potter throughout, Snape turns out to be one of the heroes of the tale.

Alan Rickman, who played Snape in the famous Harry Potter franchise, passed away last week after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Fellow stars of the film have since paid tribute to the actor online, with Harry Potter J.K. Rowling  expressing her devastation on Twitter.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe later described Rickman as “one of the loyalest and supportive” people he has ever met.

Emma Watson was the next to share her sadness about the “special” actor’s passing.
