Republicans ‘invite Kim Davis’ to Obama’s State of the Union address

Anti-gay Kentucky clerk Kim Davis and her lawyer have reportedly been invited to Obama’s State of the Union address.

The Democratic President is set to deliver his final State of the Union address this evening before he leaves office in January 2017.

Obama has invited a number of poignant guests, including equal marriage plaintiff Jim Obergefell.

However, not all of the guests will be so esteemed – the Washington Examiner reports that the Republicans have invited Kentucky clerk Kim Davis.

The newspaper’s diary column reports: “The Family Research Council told Secrets late Monday that they arranged for Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who refused to approve marriage certificates for gay couples, to sit in the House audience.

“They also got a seat for her attorney Mat Staver.”

Christian lawyer Mat Staver – whose group the Liberty Counsel is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center – has previously been condemned by the Jewish Anti-Defamation League for comments likening Davis to Jews in the gas chambers.

Despite outrage from Jewish and LGBT groups the lawyer has continued to make more tasteless Nazi comparisons – claiming the Obama administration is an “oppressive regime” like Hitler’s.

He claimed: “We are living under an oppressive regime that is pushing America’s Christians into a ‘spiral of silence.’

“Of course, the spiral of silence had devastating results in Nazi Germany.

“Silencing people of faith in the public square has always been the goal of those who realize the influence that pastors, churches, and people of faith have on elections and the culture.”
