A best-selling Young Adult author will document her transition to female – after signing a deal with Glamour magazine.

Juno Dawson has published a string of successful books – including ‘Hollow Pike’, ‘Say Her Name’ and the international best-seller ‘This Book Is Gay’ – under her former name, James Dawson.

The author announced her transition in October, saying: “I hope that in a year or so I will be considered a woman and can go out as a heterosexual woman and date men and not have to dwell in specialist underground lairs.

“I want to be able to walk in the sun as a woman.”

Dawson – who recently stuck up for her book after a library in Alaska faced calls to ban it – was today signed by Glamour magazine to write a monthly column.

Glamour editor Jo Elvin said: “I am proud to bring Juno’s journey to GLAMOUR – she promises to deliver a truly honest account of what it means to be transgender.

“Her column will be a ‘warts and all’ look at transitioning and the countless issues raised by the experience.

“She is a brilliant writer, so I can promise that her column will be insightful and compelling.”

Juno Dawson added: “It is such a thrill to bring my transition diary to GLAMOUR Magazine. 2015 was a watershed year in terms of trans awareness and so it feels right that a magazine for ALL women in a modern, diverse UK should feature a proud trans woman.

“I’d like to thank GLAMOUR and editor Jo Elvin for letting me tell my story at such an exciting time in my life… It’s going to be quite the journey!”

In her first column, Dawson “opens up on the process of understanding and accepting her gender identity, describes the difficulties of choosing a new name for herself, and asks what it means to be a woman in today’s society”.
